Cosmetic dentistry is a great field that lets us work on people’s teeth and give them the smiles they want. One of our most valuable tools when it comes to cosmetic dentistry here at Dr. Fieldhouse & Dr. Peterson’s in La Grange Park, IL is veneers. Along with teeth whitening, veneers are very popular.
Using veneers, we can cover up stained, crooked, chipped, and cracked teeth. When it comes to stain, we usually start with teeth whitening. Not everyone responds to whitening products, though, and veneers become our best option at making stained teeth look better.
At Dr. Fieldhouse & Dr. Peterson’s, we have to examine you first and determine whether or not veneers can be placed. If it’s determined that they can, we’ll measure the teeth on which the veneers will be placed. These measurements are used to create the veneers at a lab. You’ll come back when we have them.
We remove about 0.5mm of each tooth that will receive a veneer. The veneer is then placed and properly fixated. Veneers are permanent. Patients can’t take them off at home whenever they want. If you want your veneers removed, you’ll have to visit us so we can remove them using our tools. The adjustments made to teeth before veneers are placed, however, are permanent.
Veneers won’t have a heavy impact on your life. The only thing you’ll need to take care of is what you chew and bite on. Biting on your fingernails or chewing nuts and other hard foods can break your veneers because they’re weaker than natural teeth.
They won’t feel strange in your mouth because we’ll modify them based on your bite. You will feel like something’s placed over your teeth for a few hours, but you’ll quickly get used to wearing them. Getting veneers doesn’t mean you can eat and drink whatever you want and not brush your teeth.
Veneers aren’t stain-resistant. They will become darker, just like your natural teeth. Taking good care of them will mean they’ll maintain their bright colors, so you don’t have to replace them frequently.
